Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships

14th - 19th February 2012

 

The next Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships will take place in Tasmania from the 14th - 19th February 2012.

There will be one day of official practice and three days of competition. The actual competition will consist of five three hour sessions over two and a half days and will be arranged to accommodate dry and wet fly fishing, from boats, bank and river.

The final afternoon will include the Commonwealth Fly Tying Competition, demonstrations and a closing Banquet.

Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships 2010 Rhayader & Llandrindod Wells, Mid Wales

For the 5th year in a row, the Scottish Ladies competed in the Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships. Last year they were held in the lovely Welsh waters of Mid Wales and involved river fishing on the Wye, bank fishing on Ellan Valley Lakes and Clywedog Reservoir and one boat session on Tal-y-Llyn.

The Ladies Team were Lana Taylor (Captain) Jane Wright, Helen Philp, Gill Forsyth, heather Carry and Janet Robertson.

The winners were Australia World, second was England and third was Scotland Men. The best Individual was MICHAEL LOW from Scotland.

Unfortunately the Ladies team did not do very well against the other 10 teams, but did fish well in iindividuall sessions. On two occasions the reserve had to be called in due to illness, but overall the team fished hard over the four days of the competition.

Each angler is awared points from 1 to 11, according to their placing within each group. 1 point for the best catch for each session, then 2,3,4, and so on, but 11 being awarded for blank bags.
